Reaching people one heart at a time” has been the life passion of singer-songwriter Robinette Brice since her solo debut in church at age 12.
Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, it didn’t take long for Robinette to discover her “calling” in music. Growing up, she recalls listening to music for hours, screaming with joy at the television display of Michael Jackson, and shedding emotional tears to the soulful sounds of Marvin Winans. Robinette is the seventh of nine children born to the late Elmore Brice, business-owner and contractor, and Pastor Marie Brice, founder of Pentecostal Church of Deliverance. Her mother founded the church when Robinette was six years old, and one year later Robinette received the gift of Salvation also being filled with the Holy Ghost. That same year Robinette underwent surgery for what was found to be appendicitis. Post-surgery, doctors concluded that if left unchecked for another 24 hours, the results would have been fatal.
Upon recovery, Robinette began singing, first at home, forming a singing group with her siblings. Then at age 12 she debuted as a soloist at church and started a journey towards her destiny. Heavily influenced by several musical icons of the day including Marvin Gaye, The Clark Sisters and Whitney Houston, Robinette especially credits her older brother Joseph Brice, who at the time was a touring bassist and music director for established artists in both Gospel and secular arenas. By 16, Robinette was being invited to sing in studios, direct for her church choir, and travel locally as a guest psalmist. She also joined Milton Johnson’s choir Unity of Faith which afforded her more opportunities to travel and sing in both studios and churches regionally. As her music career flourished, so did Robinette’s success as a hairstylist, opening her own hair salon, “Fried, Dyed and Laid to the Side” at the age of 20. She managed several employees and became known by many as a braiding specialist. In the year 2000, Robinette established another salon called Braid Me.net – during this time her clientele expanded and her hairstyles were published nationally in hair magazines as well as illustrated in beauty stores everywhere.
Today, quite modestly, Robinette is affectionately known and appreciated by many, especially pastors and leaders in church communities spanning throughout the regions of Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Having hosted an innumerable amount of church concerts and musical events over the last two decades, directing choirs and ensembles, mentoring hundreds of youth and young adults, and building multiple praise teams within a plethora of church music ministries; it’s no wonder Robinette has shared the stage with the likes of: Patti LaBelle, Tanya Blount, Hezekiah Walker, Tye Tribbett, Judith Christie-Mc Callister, Kevin LeVar, Angie Stone, Lil’ Mo, Jeff Majors, and many others!
With an upcoming EP and much more original music to share with the world, Robinette’s songwriting is fueled by passions both emotional and relational. The loss of her father in 2009 presented a challenge, yet through Faith she was able to compose a beautiful song for his home going. In commemoration of her father, Robinette founded her own label El More Records, LLC. in 2011. Today Robinette has much more to share through her music and life story: motivation, optimism, resilience, and experience just to name a few.
She’s “God’s Fed-Ex Girl” – With a Heavenly message to deliver to your heart from His.
